Cheering for Thai Olympic Athletes

Cheering for Thai Olympic Athletes

The Olympics is now over. This year's 2012 Summer Olympic Games was hosted by London. 37 Thai National athletes attended the event, competing in 16 different sports mainly weightlifting (7 athletes), badminton (6 athletes), as well as boxing, taekwondo and shooting (3 athletes each).  Thailand's most well-known sports are boxing and weightlifting.  And these are the two sports which most Thai people watch. Thais are very proud of their National athletes’ ability to compete in the Olympics against other countries and most of the stay up at night to cheer especially for the matches near the final round where we have a chance of winning a medal. The next morning you would here everyone talking about what happened and the excitement that occurred when they were cheering for the Thai athlete.

In the end, Thailand won in total of 3 medals 2 silvers and 1 bronze. The first medal we won was the Silver medal by Ms. Pimsiri Sirikaew who competed in Weightlifting – Women’s 58 kg. She was able to carry 100 kg and 136 kg. The second medal was won by Mr. Kaeo Pongprayoon in Boxing – Men's light flyweight (52 kg). He won against David from Russia during the semi-finals but then last to Zou from China in the final round. Last but not least, Ms. Chanatip Sonkham won Thailand’s second silver medal by competing in Taekwondo – Women's 49 kg. It was surely a fun event cheering for Thailand with family and friends.
