''To achieve success and become a leader, it is important that you believe that your dreams can become a reality''

''Manager of Student Affairs at the American University in Cairo''

In an interview with a very important face and actor at the American University in Cairo, a man who's face represent AUC and the educational system at AUC, I am glad to introduce you to Mr. Amr. First, you must believe that you are a future leader. You must believe in yourself and your abilities. ''Leadership starts with confidence, a vision and an idea'' (Amr).

In my interview with Mr. Amr, I asked him:

How can students become leaders and what sort of preparation do we need?

Leadership Ahmed starts with a vision. With leadership, the question at the beginning and at the end of the day is, how far can we take this, how big can we grow it, and how fast can we get there? You need to ask yourself those same questions. Plant the seeds for your future vision. It is up to you to create an environment in which you can soar. Creating this environment begins with inspirational leadership and the tools to effectively establish and develop a vision. Establishing a vision of where you want to be in the long term will inspire others to look to the future. A vision is an aim for the future.

What key traits or what rules do we need to follow to become future leaders?

1) Enthusiasm: Leaders are usually seen as active, expressive and energetic. They are often very optimistic and open to change.

2) Responsibility: Leaders are often dominated by a sense of duty and tend to be exacting in character. They have a high standard of excellence and an inward desire to do their best. They also have a need for order and tend to be very self-disciplined.

3) Self-assurance: Self-confidence and resiliency are common traits among leaders.

4) Tough-mindedness: Good leaders are practical, logical and to-the-point. They tend to be low in sentimental attachments, comfortable with criticism and are very poised.

Below is a very unique program offered to AUC Students to prepare them to become future leaders, ''The AUC Student Ambassador Program''

''Becoming a leader on campus sets the stage for future leadership opportunities''

What does the American University in Cairo do to prepare our Business students to become future leaders?

Campus life administrators play a very vital role at AUC, they provide forums for students to discuss different views and diverse perspectives on social, economic and cultural issues. AUC Students occupy leadership positions where they are challenged to go outside of their comfort zone, struggle, and stretch beyond their current reality to understand how people grow and learn to innovate. Campus life administrators are very keen to help students and not handicap them! This means, they act as a resource and support system to encourage student leaders through the struggle. Ongoing workshops and seminars are held as a follow up and support to AUC students in case they face any struggles and problems throughout their academic year, so students can reflect and reevaluate themselves as leaders. And this is what diffrentiate the American University in Cairo from any other University in the region!

How do you see education going from your perspective?

Education is the most powerful weapon you can use to change the world.  Education is essential to sustainable development. Citizens of the world need to learn their way to sustainability. Education is the key to eliminating gender inequality, to reducing poverty, to creating a sustainable planet, to preventing needless deaths and illness, and to fostering peace. And in a knowledgable economy, education is the new currency by which nations maintain economic competitiveness and global prosperity. Education is an investment, and one of the most critical investments we can make.

Finally, Mr. Amr concluded with me the interview by saying a very wise word: ''Leaders are made, not born. If you want to become a leader, you must begin with motivating and educating yourself. Good leaders develop through a never-ending process of self-study, education, training and experience.

You are the leader of tomorrow Ahmed, and your future as a leader depend on your ability to follow these practices. Remember, when you set your mind to do something, you can achieve greatness!
