Brief interview with professor Olivera Jurkovic-Majic

1. Can you tell us something about your background?

After graduation I enrolled in a postgraduate degree in Marketing and International Trade and parallel studied law. In 2004 I started with my scientific postgraduate study of Marketing - theory and practice, and got my PhD on the topic of international trade policy and conflicting of national interests.

2. Why did you choose economics?

Large ambitions, and limited resources. :)

3. Did you always know that you want to teach?

No, but when I started teaching in 1986, I knew it was my final choice.

4. Of all the papers that you published, which are you most proud of?

My doctoral dissertation.

5. Why did you decide to come to teach at the Zagreb School of Economics and Management?

Because I believed in the vision and the management of the business school.

6. With what has ZSEM impressed you most?

The School's organization, and the possibility for creative expression and employee development.

7. What do you think, what kind of students this school attracts?

ZSEM attracts students who know exactly what they want.

8. What piece of advice would you share with your students who attend your lectures?

To be curious, always look for answers and be the co-creator of each of my lectures.

9.  Where do you see yourself in five years?

At ZSEM, with my students!

10. Do you have any advice for those students who are struggling as students and want to give up?

All of us who have studied or are studying, often find ourselves at such dilemmas, especially during exams. We should seek then advice from our colleagues, friends, parents, teachers, and the problems we face will seem smaller, and solutions will seem closer.

Thank you professor. You’re doing a super job!
